Dental hygienists forever
Look at the differences! Here I am with toothbrush earrings, a happy-tooth nametag, loupes and scrubs. Beside me is my sister, Andrea Hester Adkins, wearing a cap, her lavender school lab coat, school pin, and discreet "Mrs. Adkins" nametag. Times have sure changed since we were hygiene students at West Liberty State College (now University) in the early '70s.
I was a working hygienist from 1974 to 1984, and from 1991 to 2011. I was employed in eight different dental offices and temped in many more. I wrote dozens of articles for dental magazines, and presented continuing education programs at dental hygiene meetings and conferences for several years. Dental hygiene was very good to me, and I loved (most of) those years.
